I created this personal project as a way to explore and improve my skills in concept art, design, and digital painting. The project is based on the Inktober 2020 challenge, but with my own twist. Instead of doing an ink drawing a day, as the Inktober challenge calls for, I created magical potion designs based on each of the prompts on the Inktober Official 2020 Prompt List and did digital paintings for each design.
For each design, I also came up with ideas for what the potions did, based around the Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition rules and mechanics. The finished product is meant to provide content to be used as "Homebrew" items in D&D games.
I created a total of 31 digitally illustrated concept designs with corresponding descriptions for each.
This project required research of Dungeons & Dragons rules and mechanics, as well as concept design and illustration of a variety of textures and materials, while keeping all designs cohesive within a set of design parameters and visual style.
This project was a fun and engaging challenge that helped me to improve my digital painting skills, challenged me to think outside of the box, and helped improve my technique and speed when it comes to illustrating. I uploaded them to my social media pages on tumblr and instagram where they had high levels of engagement, garnering several thousand likes, comments and shares.
